Civil Rights Corps’ storytelling is centered on the humanity of individuals and communities most impacted by the inequities and injustices in our legal system. Through the expertise of CRC professionals, we strive to enlighten and educate audiences nationwide across various media platforms. Our work is grounded in the belief that personal experiences and stories invite deeper connections and foster greater understanding. By utilizing traditional communication channels, social media, and both short and long-form content, we engage a wide spectrum of audiences to explore the core issues of our work.

Shifting the Narrative

A key factor in shifting the narrative on how we see and treat one another, is understanding that how we write and speak about the inequities and abuses in our systems and bureaucracies is critical to how we invite the general public and systems decision makers to understand the inequities they empower and enable. We know that stories and personal experiences connect us to an issue more deeply, and help build understanding. Once we know someone’s story, we can’t unknow it, and ultimately have a deeper understanding of the everyday issues important to one another.

CRC’s storytelling efforts center the stories of the people who are most impacted by our work to educate and enlighten our audiences through traditional communications, while identifying short and long-form platforms and ways in which we can take a deeper dive into the primary issue areas of our work. In the short term, we challenge the negative characteristics and false narratives that currently exist. In the long term, the language we use will have a sustainable impact on creating the communities we envision.

The Storytelling Department at CRC is a collaborative space where everyone is encouraged to contribute in ways that feel most comfortable. Whether it’s writing Op-Eds, developing media pitches, or creating social media campaigns and podcast series, each of our unique perspectives and areas of expertise bring valuable insights that help amplify our impact on dismantling harmful systems and shifting the narrative on how these critical issues are perceived and addressed.
