Job Description

Civil Rights Corps is seeking one or more paid full-time investigative interns to join our team for summer 2022. The intern(s) will support our impact litigation and advocacy challenging mass human caging with a goal of creating a legal system that promotes equality and freedom. Internship duties will include:

  • Conducting research, investigation, and related tasks in support of complex civil rights litigation in federal and state courts to challenge a range of injustices within the criminal legal system.
  • Supporting CRC’s litigation teams by requesting, reviewing, organizing, and analyzing documents and working with attorneys and investigators to integrate information into case preparation.
  • Assisting with preparation of discovery responses and planning depositions of witnesses and clients. 
  • Conducting interviews with CRC clients, class members, and witnesses. 
  • Drafting memos related to interviews and research projects.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, community partners, organizers, coalition members, and legal allies.
  • Working collaboratively with attorneys, investigators, and policy and communications staff on a variety of cases and projects. 

 

Qualifications

The ideal investigative intern is passionate about social justice, is hard working, a fast learner, proactive, able to juggle multiple tasks, and able to work well in a collaborative environment. 

Specific qualifications we are looking for include:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission, purpose, and values of CRC.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in teams. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple projects and keep track of deadlines.
  • Experience working with marginalized communities, with those directly impacted by the criminal legal system, and on behalf of low-income clients.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Innovative thinking, an unwillingness to accept things as they are, and a strong work ethic are essential.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
  • Ability to commit to 40 hours per week from 6/6/2022 through 8/5/2022.

 

Compensation and Logistics

CRC commits to a salary of $15 an hour for interns. Currently, our staff is working in the office a few days a week with many continuing to be primarily remote. We continue to evaluate our policies for remote work in light of developments with the pandemic.
